Concerned gente seize MSU campus bridge for IMMIGRANT RIGHTS!

MEXA de MSU, Chicanos y Latinos Unidos and Students for Economic Justice would like to thank everyone who came out to  support the Bridges Not Borders! event that was held today from 12-1:30 p.m. at the Well's Hall bridge on Michigan State University's campus.

About 20 supporters  of ¡Puentes SI, Paredes NO! successfully blocked the Well's Hall bridge for approximately 20 minutes before there was a complaint and the police showed up.  Anyone that wanted to cross the bridge was kindly, but firmly told that they needed proper documentation in order to pass through our blockade of banners.

It was very exciting and reaffirming to see a good number of the "crossers" let us know that they understood our reasons for our immigrant solidarity action today.  On the other hand, it was very sad to see that people were so disturbed at having to go 5 minutes out of their way, when inmigrante's have to go for days and miles out of their way, through what is usually rough, arid terrain.

This event was only to try to minutely represent the difficulties, pain and sacrifice that comes with creating and enforcing unjust, racist borders!

The purpose of blocking the bridge was to highlight the severity of the current immigration and border politics.  We find that among so much anti-immigrant sentiment, it is imperative that we look to measures that do not seek to merely punish, detain and ostracize.

As Americans, as Mexican Americans, as other oppressed gente's around the world, we must express passionate, non-relenting advocacy and support for the rights of all immigrants, regardless of documentation.

NO ONE SHOULD BE DYING ON THE BORDER!
NO ONE SHOULD HAVE TO HIDE BECAUSE OF LACK OF "PAPERS"!
NO ONE SHOULD BE AGGRESSIVELY HUNTED DOWN LIKE ANIMALES!

NO HUMAN BEING IS ILLEGAL!
